EU subsidies to combate impunity through the support to the International Criminal Court
A budget line in support of projects to promote the goals of the ICC.
Overall objective : - strenghtening democratisation, good governance and the rule of law
- activities in support of the abolition of the death penalty
- combating torture and imunity through support for international tribunals and criminal courts
- combating racisme and xenophobia and discrimination against minorities and indigenous people.
Deadline: 29/9/2004
Specific objectives: - promoting the universality of the Rome Statute:
- implementing the principle of complementarity
- enhancing public perception and awareness
Type of actions: - increased awareness among decision-makers of the
implications of the signing and ratification of the Rome Statute
- support provided to the drafting and adoption of national implementing legislation.
- increased awareness among concerned field actors about the competence and functioning of the ICC
- reinforced capacity of concerned actors to provide assistance to ICC-field investigations
Location : - any country having not ratified the Rome Statute as
well as those countries in which the Prosecutor of the ICC has opened
an investigation or engaged a preliminary investigation.
- some of those countries represented in the “international Conference on Democracy, Human Rights and the Rule of Law.
- China, Japan, Russia, Turkey.
Beneficiaries : non-profit-making legal persons and
non-governmental organisation or a higher education institution having
their headquarters in the E.U. or in a country eligible to this call
and being directly responsible for the preparation and management of
the action.
Minimum and maximum grants: 300.000 € for the applicants having
their headquarters in the EU; 150.000 € for the applicants having
their headquarters in the other eligible countries to 1000 000 €
