The European Commission, the EU’s executive, includes one representative for each Member State. Mr Vosganian, a 48 year old economist and a liberal senator, is a member of the Armenian minority of Romania. He is also a member of the parliamentary assembly of the Council of Europe.

While Bulgarian Commissioner Meglena Kouneva has now been confirmed, President Barroso however postponed confirmation of Mr Vosganian pending further consultations.
